The Arthur M. Sackler Museum is home to the ancient, Asian, Islamic, and later Indian art collections of the Harvard University Art Museums. The unusual building was designed by James Stirling and opened in 1985. Stirling designed the museum to evoke an Egyptian temple, which is particularly noticeable in the entrance lobby columns, the grand staircase one takes to the fourth floor, and the entrance arch echoes Egyptian architecture. Another peculiar detail about the Sackler Museum is the giant window in the fourth floor ancient Chinese art gallery that is the result of a failed plan to build a footbridge connecting the Sackler and the Fogg Museum on Quincy St.
